Halloween Safety 101

By: the Mike Murphy Accident Team

Below are some safety tips to observe this Halloween during trick or treating!

For trick or treaters:

  • Wear bright colours or reflective clothing or use flashlights or glowsticks which will help trick or treater to be better seen

  • Always look both ways before crossing the street and make eye contact with the driver

  • If a trick or treater is wearing a mask, ensure that the mask is properly fitted and does not impact the vision of the trick or treater

  • Walk – don’t run!

  • Ensure the trick or treater stays on the side walks or, where no side walks exist, to the furthest side of the road as possible

  • Do not dart in and out of traffic

  • Walk in well-lit areas

For drivers:

  • Slow down!

  • Stop at all marked cross walks and intersections to allow trick or treaters to cross

  • Stop at all unmarked intersections to allow trick or treaters to cross

  • Keep vigilant – especially when there are younger children around as they may dart into traffic without warning

  • Don’t drink and drive

Wishing you all a safe and happy Halloween!
